It may seem like summer is almost over, but things are heating up in Texas — how are you staying cool? We’ve put together a list of some of the best (and cheap!) ways that you can beat the heat this summer, without driving yourself crazy.
Head to the Pool
There’s no better way to beat the heat than a trip to the pool! Check out Adamson Lagoon, where you can get in for just $6 and enjoy two large water slides, water basketball, a diving well, a wading pool, and more. Serving as a mini-water park, Adamson Lagoon is the perfect way to get some friends together for an afternoon of fun in the sun that won’t leave you feeling beat. You can also check out the Cindy Hallaran Pool just down the road from The Revelry on Rock Prairie Road. For just $3, you can enjoy a nice swim or an afternoon relaxing in the water.
Stop in at the Library
A great way to stay out of the sun is a visit to the Larry J. Ringer Library. Open from 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., the library is offering a lot of great activities this summer for kids and adults alike. Join a reading group or a book club to catch up on eclectic stories and authors you may not have heard of otherwise. The library also hosts fun events during the summer such as quiz night, movies, line dancing, and more.
Volunteer!
What better way to spend your free time than volunteering for organizations in need? There are tons of volunteer opportunities throughout the year, no matter where you live. Give back to the community by volunteering at the local hospital, or clean out your closet and donate items to charity. There are tons of ways to help people in need without having to spend hundreds of dollars at fancy galas, plus you’ll feel better having helped!
There are lots of things to do around town this summer to keep you from getting heatstroke — you just have to get out there and find something you like! Let us know how you spend your summers in College Station, Texas, so we can check out some of the other great opportunities around town, too.
